Victors Jan
Jan Vickers is a Dutch Golden Age artist.
Biography
Birth. He was baptized on June 13, 1619 in Amsterdam (County of Holland, Republic of the United Provinces).
The apprenticeship. In tax documents from the beginning of the 18th century, he is mentioned as a pupil of Rembrandt. There is no direct evidence of his work in Rembrandt's workshop, but the influence of the great master on Victor's work is obvious.
Later years. After 1672 (the outbreak of the Dutch War, which became a severe ordeal for the country), the artist was forced to look for additional sources of income. He became a "comforter of the sick" (ziekentrooster) in the East India Company.
Journey and death. He went to the Dutch East Indies with a company, arrived in Indonesia in early 1676 and died soon after.
Creation
Jan Vickers has worked in several genres, the most famous areas of his work:
Biblical stories. The artist created paintings on religious themes. An example is "Esther and Haman before Artaxerxes" (written between 1635 and 1640, kept in Cologne).
Genre scenes. Vickers portrayed everyday life, everyday subjects. One of his most famous works is "The Girl in the Window" (1640, Louvre).

Jan Vickers' works are represented in many museums around the world, including Russian ones.:
